Despite the difficult wartime conditions and staff shortage, systematic work continues in the capital to update city electric transport. In particular, the overhaul of trams makes it possible to extend their operation for another 10 years, increase the comfort and safety of passengers. This was reported by the Kyivpastrans municipal enterprise.
During the overhaul, the main structural elements of the tram are completely updated:
– When repairing the body and running gear, the supporting elements, trolleys, traction motors and the braking system are restored or replaced;
– Modern control systems and electronics are installed;
– The interior is modernized – the lining is replaced, new seats, handrails are installed;
– Improve conditions for passengers from low-mobility groups – upgrade/arrange ramps, equip special seats with backrests for people with disabilities. In a fully repaired tram of the Tatra TZ type, where it is not possible to install a ramp, there are warning strips on the stairs installed according to European standards.
After the repair is completed, video surveillance systems are installed.
This year, 10 trams are planned to be fully repaired: 5 – in the Darnytsia depot, 3 – in the Shevchenko depot and 2 – in the Podilsky tram depot.
On average, a major overhaul lasts 3-4 months, depending on the wear and tear of the tram and the availability of necessary spare parts. In conditions of martial law, this process may take longer, however, the repair units of Kyivpastrans are working in an intensified mode to minimize delays. (Kyiv City Council)
