Ukraine is increasing its electricity exports. While in February the country sold 64,000 MWh of electricity to its neighbours, in just 6 days of March it sold 57,000 MWh. In addition, if necessary, surplus electricity was transferred as emergency aid to neighbouring Poland.
This became possible thanks to the largest repair campaign at energy facilities in the history of Ukraine, during which 3 GW of generating capacity was added to the grid.
This opinion was voiced by Svitlana Hrynchuk, Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine.
“For more than 120 days of the heating season, we applied for so-called emergency assistance only 8 times, when we received electricity from neighbouring countries. At the same time, we provided such assistance 12 times,” said Svitlana Hrynchuk, commenting on the information on the volume of emergency assistance between the countries.
Due to the increase in generation capacities, the power system has a surplus of electricity. This makes it possible to increase export volumes – the country currently supplies electricity to 5 countries. Also, due to the surplus, Energoatom JSC took one of its NPP units for scheduled maintenance 5 days ahead of schedule. (Government portal/Business World Magazine)
