The 24-meter-long Solaris Trollino 24 Metrostyle is the longest vehicle ever used by Vilnius, exceeding its closest rivals by 6 meters.
The bus will course along Konstitucijos Avenue, Antakalnis and Sauletekis (the No. 19 trolleybus route) until mid-January 2022.
The city will be testing the new vehicle to see if buses that long are practicable.
“Longer and more capacious trolleybuses would allow reducing traffic congestion, pollution and electricity use,” Darius Aleknavicius, CEO of Vilnius Public Transport, is quoted in a press release.
The new bus has over 50 seats and can take in 190 passengers. By comparison, most current trolleybuses used in Vilnius can carry between 77 and 111 people.
Vilnius Public Transport has said it wants to use only vehicles no older than 10 years until 2030, with new or electric buses accounting for at least 55 % of the stock. (LRT/Business World Magazine)
