Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Kryklii says the construction of a new airport in Zakarpattia region provides for up to UAH 4 billion ($144.1 million) in investment, while the runway will be built at the expense of the state and the terminal – for private investor’s money.
“The Cabinet of Ministers made a decision to allocate UAH 30 million ($1 million) this year to carry out feasibility study and design works for the construction of a modern airport in Zakarpattia region, which is a very important and long-awaited project for the entire local infrastructure,” he wrote on Facebook.
“Unfortunately, today the only operating airport in the region is located in the town of Uzhgorod. Its functional capabilities are limited because of the complexity of takeoff and landing through the territory of Slovakia and the inability to service B737/A320 aircraft,” he added.
Construction of a new airport provides for: runway length no less than 2,500 meters; ability to receive A320/B737 aircraft; passenger flow within a range of 200,000-300,000 per year with further increase to 500,000-600,000.
This will allow opening flights to: Ukrainian cities of Kyiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv and Odesa; Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Italy and Spain; and Turkey and Egypt (charter flights for tourists). (UNIAN/Business World Magazine)
