Azerbaijan exported 7,060 tons of hazelnuts worth $38.37 million in the first quarter of 2019.
Compared to the same period last year, exports in quantitative terms increased by 57.3%, and in value – by 61.8%.
The major importers of local hazelnut were Russia, Italy and Germany.
In particular, in January-March as many as 3,213 tons worth $15.8 million were exported to Russia, 1,710 tons – to Italy ($9.9 million), and 1,450 tons – to Germany ($8.4 million). The rest was supplied to other countries.
In 2018, Azerbaijan exported 18,223 tons of peeled hazelnut worth $93.5 million.
In 2017, hazelnut trees were planted in Azerbaijan on an area of 18,000 hectares. Thus, the total area of hazelnut gardens in Azerbaijan reached 55,000 hectares. The main goal is to bring the figure up to 80,000 hectares by 2022. (AzerNews/Business World Magazine)
