PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) has already received all 30 General Electric locomotives. The last five arrived in Ukraine on February 1.
“Ukrzaliznytsia received all 30 contracted GE locomotives. The last five arrived in the port of Chornomorsk on February 1. The further route is already worked out. At first, they will be delivered to the Kryukov Railway Car Building Works,” Ukrzaliznytsia CEO Yevhen Kravtsov posted on Facebook.
At present, ten more American locomotives are being upgraded at the Kryukov Railway Car Building Works, Kravtsov noted.
Those locomotives, which have been already put into operation, he said, worked very effectively.
“As an example, we economize the fuel on the section Zaporizhzhia – Komysh-Zorya – Volnovakha by 30%. In addition, the cars of the old rail fleet run an average of 360 km per day, while GE diesel locomotives – 540 km,” the Ukrzaliznytsya CEO noted.
As reported, in February 2018, PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia and U.S. company General Electric Transportation signed a $1 billion framework agreement on modernization and production of locomotives. (Ukrinform/Business World Magazine)
