The level of profitability of sugar beet in Ukraine’s agricultural enterprises in 2017 halved compared to the indicators of 2016 and amounted to 12.4%, Director of the National Research Center “Institute of Agrarian Economics” Yuriy Lupenko reported.
“Last year the level of profitability of sugar beet production was the lowest one in the past four years. In 2009 and 2011 it was three times higher – 37%,” the scientist said, commenting on the data recently published by the State Statistics Service of Ukraine on the level of profitability of agricultural production in agricultural enterprises.
At the same time, according to him, the profitability of sugar beet in Chernihiv region reached a record level of 64.1% last year, while beet production in Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Rivne and Kharkiv regions was unprofitable.
A significant decrease in the level of profitability of sugar beet production will negatively affect the interest of agricultural enterprises in their cultivation, which is already low, Lupenko summed up. (Ukrinform/Business World Magazine)
