EP3D, brand new AC EMU produced by Demikhovsky Machine Building Factory (DMZ, belongs to Transmashholding Group), is being tested at VNIIZHT testing facility in Scherbinka, Moscow region.
There is a high level of standardization in relation to mechanical engineering assemblies and components between EP3D and EP2D, DC EMU also designed by DMZ engineers. The EMU combines modern design, high level of capability, economic efficiency and accident-free operations, as well as compliance with the most strict safety requirements.
Technical processes applied during EMU development allow for 4-, 6- and 8-car train configurations. Such solutions will ensure for application of EP3D at both intensive and small traffic flow lines.
Decrease of operating costs is ensured due to application of the most up-to-date technical solutions. The train is equipped with a crash system and HVAC including air disinfection system. Energy saving equipment set providing for up to 20% energy saving and a powerful auxiliary converter, which allows for considerable decrease of noise and vibration level in saloons, are used. Modified cabin design with a removable ladder helps to eliminate access of unauthorized persons to a front part of the cab and the roof.
The EMU is fitted with all required equipment for handicapped passengers. These are: lifting devices to lift wheelchairs from low platforms, toilets for wheelchair passengers and special areas in saloons for wheelchair fixing.
The train may operate at -50 to +50 degrees C. It is adapted for both low and high platform lines.
In the months to come the most modern EMU will pass all required preliminary and certification tests resulting in issuance of a compliance certificate. (TMH/Business World Magazine)
