More than 100 Russian-made RD-33MK turbojet engines have been delivered to India’s Navy, the press office of Russia’s United Engine Corporation (UEC) said.
The engines were manufactured by the Chernyshev Machine-Building Enterprise, a subsidiary of the United Engine Corporation within Russia’s state hi-tech corporation Rostec.
“The engines were delivered under a contract signed between Russia’s MiG Aircraft-Manufacturing Corporation and India’s Defense Ministry earlier”, the press office said.
According to UEC CEO Alexander Artyukhov, the corporation intends “to provide full-fledged support for Indian customers to ensure effective and safe operation of Russian-made engines, including RD-33MK motors”.
In particular, the RD-33MK engine is mounted on the Mikoyan MiG-29K/KUB (NATO reporting name: Fulcrum-D) shipborne fighter jet. Each fighter jet is powered by two engines.
Earlier, India ordered 45 Russian-made planes of this type. These planes are planned to be delivered to India before the yearend.
The press office did not specify whether India had received the engines separately or within the fighter jets. (Russian Aviation/Business World Magazine)
