The Verkhovna Rada has adopted a law on the settlement of certain issues of the legal regime of the territories affected by radioactive contamination as a result of the Chornobyl disaster (No. 4437), that will allow solving the issues of state property management and urban planning in the area, as well as attracting investment, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Ostap Semerak has said.
“I hope the parliament, by adopting this law, opens a way for investors in Ukraine”, he said.
He noted that a number of investors were interested in construction of solar power plants in the exclusion zone. The main obstacle was a lack of rights to manage land in this area.
Semerak added the law also solved the problem of issuing permits for special use of water objects and emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere.
The minister believes the adoption of this document will make it possible to change attitude to the exclusion zone, which is very necessary, as from the date of the Chornobyl disaster 30 years have passed, the contaminated area has become much safer. (Interfax/Business World Magazine)
