In January-September the Freeport of Riga handled 25,490,700 tons of cargo, down by 5.1% YoY. As the port authority reported, coal transshipment climbed by 2.5%, to 9,331,400 tons, oil products dropped by 33.4%, to 4,320,600 tons, wood pellets went up by 13.5%, to 474,100 tons, ore – by 31.1%, to 365,200 tons.
The port’s container throughput grew by 17%, to 323,899 TEUs.
Passenger turnover increased by 47.5%, to 659,272, including 83,487 cruise passengers (+21.4%).
Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 hectares. The port’s berth length is 13,800 m, and maximum draft at the berths is 12.2 m. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2016, the port’s throughput totaled 37,070,300 tons of cargo.
