In January-August Kazakhstan exported nearly 2.4 million tons of wheat and meslin, a decrease of 10.1% compared with the same period last year, the Statistics Committee of the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported.
According to the announcement, in the reporting period the export earnings decreased by 10.4%, to $382 million. It is noted that previously Kazakhstan reached such minimum level of earnings in 2011 only – nearly $228 million. In addition, the average selling prices of wheat and meslin on the global market totaled $158.2/ton, down by 0.3% YoY. Thus, the prices for Kazakh wheat and meslin decreased by 23.4% compared with the prices in 2012.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN, in 2017 wheat production in the world will decline due to poor harvesting campaign in the USA, as well as the expected decreasing of wheat production in Australia. However, the supply volumes can increase due to the growth of carry-over stocks. As for Kazakhstan, the Italian demand for supplies of the reporting wheat and meslin even doubled (up by $19.7 million), while the price reduced by 11.6%.
Also, Iran significantly reduced its purchasing volumes – 26-fold (down by $36.5 million), as well as Russia – down 2.7-fold (by $29.9 million), and in the monitored period the prices of Kazakh wheat in the reporting directions increased by 4.9% and 21.4%, respectively.
