Latvia’s retail trade volume this June, as compared with the same month of 2016, grew by 3.2%, which is slightly more than the average in the European Union, according to data from Eurostat.
The most rapid retail trade growth in June was registered in Slovenia (+10.2%), followed by Croatia (+8.2%) and Slovakia (+8.1%). Estonia’s retail trade turnover was 4% above last year’s June, and Lithuania’s growth rate was 2.6%.
At the same time, the lowest retail trade growth was noted in Hungary (+1.2%) and Belgium (+2%). Retail trade turnover in Denmark remained on the level of June 2016. Among the EU member states for which data is available, Luxembourg was the only country to experience a decline (-25.8%). Analysts say this is mainly due to the change in applied methodology.
