In January-March, the Port of Tallinn handled 5 million tons of cargo, down by 5% YoY. According to the Port Authorities, passenger traffic via the port grew by 1%, to 1.92 million people (the growth was driven mostly by the passenger flow between Tallinn and Helsinki).
Cargo transshipment decline is attributed to reduced handling of liquid bulk cargo while transshipment of dry cargo demonstrated a slight increase.
Port of Tallinn ranks the fourth largest seaport, next to St. Petersburg, Primorsk and Ust-Luga, on the Baltic Sea. The port comprises five so-called port zones: Muuga, Old City Harbor, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa. In 2016 throughput at Tallinn port totaled 20.12 million tons.
